It’s summer in the Northern Hemisphere, but June marks the start of the winter season in the Southern Hemisphere where the Skyrunning South American Championships will take place on June 6-8 , 2025 in Peru.
Callahuanca, situated in the valleys and foothills of the Andes some 60 kilometres from Lima, is the host venue where Marcahuasi Ultra Skyrunning will welcome teams from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and home country Peru, to battle for the 27 medals at stake.
For the first time in Peru, the third Skyrunning South American Championships will take place here after two successful editions in Brazil. The high altitude, touching on 4,000m, will dominate the challenge but the winter climate of the Andes will assist with dry, sunny weather and lower temperatures.

The events include the three classic skyrunning disciplines: VERTICAL, SKY and SKYULTRA over three consecutive days.
June 6 – Marcahuasi VK – 4.5 km long with 1,000m vertical climb
June 7 – Marcahuasi SKYULTRA – 59 km long with 3,400m vertical climb
June 8 – Marcahuasi SKY – 37 km long with 2,800m vertical climb
The Championships launch on Friday, June 6 with the VERTICAL – a perfect Vertical Kilometer® 4.5 km long with 1,000m vertical climb topping out at 2,810m altitude.

Saturday features the SKYULTRA, 59 km long with a lung-busting 3,400m vertical climb.
The Championships will conclude on Sunday with the SKY discipline, 37 km long and a demanding 2,800m vertical climb of pure skyrunning.
Both the SKY and SKYULTRA races share part of the same course, falling just 44 metres short of 4,000m altitude and both are a tough Technical Level 2 on the ISF Certified Course list. All athletes participating in the CC races are automatically included in the ISF Ranking and full ranking information is available for ISF License holders in official teams. Anyone with the ISF Card can access the full ISF Performance Ranking and Athletes’ Profiles.
In addition to the individual titles assigned in the three disciplines, a combined title based on the VERTICAL and SKY results will also be awarded. Medals are also awarded in the country ranking based on the best results accrued by the runners of each team in each race.

Rodrigo Chandia, an Argentinian skyrunner who participated in the 2024 World and SkySnow Championships is leading the way for his country. “We’re just a few days away from participating in an ISF international event again. We’ve done a lot of training and are enthusiastic after participating in the 2024 World and SkySnow Championships.
“The Argentine team continues to grow, and we’ll be present in all three disciplines giving a strong start to what could in the future be the formation of a Skyrunning Federation in our country – something very important for the development of the sport. We hope that will be the case and that in upcoming events many more of us will be wearing the Argentine jersey!
“Regarding the competition, it will be a demanding scenario close on 4,000 meters altitude. May it be a great South American Championship for everyone and see you in the mountains!”

Jasieli Rosa from Brazil, silver medallist at the 2024 Masters Skyrunning World Championships had this to say, “I’m on my fifth participation with the Brazilian SKY team, travelling as the team captain. We have a strong team and aim to win and of course, fight for the individual medals in South America. It will be a new experience in Peru and I am optimistic as the preparation was very good. Now it’s time to run and represent our Brazil!”
Ricardo Rivadeneira, Peru Skyrunning President and Marcahuasi Ultra Skyrunning race director commented, “We’re very excited to organise the Skyrunning South American Championships at the Marcahuasi Ultra and extend a very warm welcome to the official teams from across the continent to enjoy Peru, Callahuanca, San Pedro de Casta – and the skyrunning party.”
Peru ticks all the boxes for an iconic skyrunning event set in the Andes where altitude, technical terrain and stunning views will be the backdrop for strong competition from seven major South American countries battling for the titles and medals.
The events will be overseen by ISF Referees.
