Introducing the events

Since the first extreme races in 1992, the first World Championship in 1998 and the introduction of the Skyrunner® World Series in 2004, skyrunning has grown to become a globally renowned sport governed by the International Skyrunning Federation. More recently National Series and Continental Championships have been introduced. The sport is practised in more than 65 nations and counts followers from 126 countries.

April 2 – 2023 North and Central American Championships

The season kicks off on April 2, 2023, with the North & Central American Championships hosted in Costa Rica for the first time. Featuring the SKY discipline, the race summits at 3,473m altitude.

June 22-23 – 2023 South American Championships

The South American Championships go back to Brazil for the second time after 2019. All three disciplines, VERTICAL, SKY and SKYULTRA will be hosted here between June 22-25, 2023

July 14-16 – 2023 European Championships

For the first time in the Balkans from July 14-16, 2023, the European Skyrunning Championships will be hosted in Montenegro featuring all three disciplines: VERTICAL, SKY and SKYULTRA.

August 4-6 – 2023 Youth Skyrunning World Championships

It’s back to the roots for the 2023 Youth Skyrunning World Championships returning to Gran Sasso, L’Aquila, Italy on August 4-6, 2023. This year, four categories will compete in the VERTICAL and SKY disciplines where World Champion titles and 75 medals are at stake.

December 9 – 2023 Asian Championships

The Asian Championships will be back in Hong Kong, China on Lantau Island where successful past editions were held. The SKY and SKYULTRA will be held on the same day, December 9, 2023.
