At the 2015 UIAA General Assembly, held in Seoul, South Korea, the International Skyrunning Federation (ISF) became a unit member of the UIAA, the International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation. The partnership officially commenced on 1 January 2016.
In becoming a unit member association of the UIAA, the ISF agreed to acknowledge the values of the UIAA and work with the UIAA to promote the growth and protection of mountaineering and climbing worldwide.
Both organizations will work with the goal to improve their respective positions in the international sporting environment, in order to become stronger and achieve greater opportunities through the union of common interests. During the initial stage of the partnership this will focus on the fields of safety and anti-doping.
The UIAA was founded in 1932 and has over 80 member associations in 58 countries representing about 3 million climbers and mountaineers. The organization’s mission is to promote the growth and protection of climbing and mountaineering worldwide, advance safe and ethical mountain practices and promote responsible access, culture and environmental protection.
The organization operates through the work of its commissions which make recommendations, set policy and advocate on behalf of the climbing and mountaineering community. The UIAA is recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
