|Dolomites VK – Zemmer & Orgue winners|
Urban Zemmer, Italy’s 44-year-old Vertical specialist and 2013 Skyrunner® World Series champion, raced up the short steep Dolomites Vertical Kilometer® today to win in 32’51”, just 8” under Kilian Jornet’s 2013 record. Today, Kilian was 8th, in 34’52” proving he is almost human after his very recent Hardrock 100 mile record in Colorado. The men’s podium was all-La Sportiva, racing on home ground here in Canazei, with Nejc Kuhar, and Marco Moletto, 2nd and 3rd respectively.
Spain’s Laura Orguè, recently crowned Skyrunning World Champion for the Vertical distance in Chamonix and winner of the Face de Bellevarde VK just last week, confirms her prowess as queen of vertical running and to top it all, broke Antonella Confortola’s 2008 record of 41’02”, closing in 38’14”. Laura said she felt in great shape and thanked Christel Dewalle, 2nd, and Antonella, 3rd, for pushing her so hard.
Emelie Forsberg, Skyrunning Ultra champion and winner last week of the 65 km Ice-Trail, decided to save her legs for Sunday’s 22 km Dolomites SkyRace® to the summit of the 3,152m Piz Boè. Kilian will also be participating, but this time, without his long-time sparring partner Marco Degasperi, who is not on top form and will not be racing.
