The first course for International Skyrunning Referees took place in Saragossa, Spain on Saturday, April 24, attended by eleven Spanish and Portuguese referees at the Aragon Mountaineering Federation’s headquarters.
The course to obtain the title was held by members of the ISF Technical Commission, Goio Larrañaga, Xavier Sant and Jordi Marimon. Future courses this year will include Italy, Switzerland and Malaysia in October assuring global coverage. Judges with this title will be able not only to referee official ISF competitions such as World Series races, World Championships etc, but will have the authority to certify records, advise race organisers and act as consultants to the ISF Technical Commision for regulations. Considering the high level of experience of the partiicipants, the course concentrated on studying regulations, anti doping control procedures on behalf of WADA, the role of judges in international competitions, the internal structure of the ISF and its operation together with record certification and a number of other topics. Course participants now qualified as ”International Skyrunning Judge” are: Manuel Amat, Goio Larrañaga, Miquel Giménez, Antxón Burcio, Eduardo Rodríguez, Eduardo Egea, Eloy Corres, Joan Juncosa and Jordi Marimon representing the Spanish Federation of Mountain Sports and Climbing (FEDME). The Portuguese Mountaineering and Climbing Federation (FPME) was represented by: Luís Filipe Rijo and Antonio Manuel Matias.
